The Sault Area Schools worked on their Teacher Evaluation System and their Merit Pay Plan from the Spring to the Fall of 2011. This page will serve as a central source of information related to this process.
At the Right you will notice some links to a number of reference documents that may be of interest to you.
In order to be meaningful, the systems should be valuable to the teacher and lead to improved instruction and learning.
In the Spring of 2011 we hosted a regional workshop with Frank Ciloski from the MEA on developing an effective teacher evaluation system. This topic was discussed over the summer in contract negotiations for the purpose of being collaborative. In the Fall of 2011 we established committees to work on these systems.
Participation in this process was voluntary and optional. Any teacher or administrator that was interested was welcome to attend.
We took a finalized system to the board of education at the October 10, 2011 board meeting where it was apporved and we will use the systems for the 2011-12 school year.
During the summer of 2012 we reviewed and updated the Merit Pay Plan and the Teacher Evaluation systems with staff input. The new Merit Pay Plan is listed at the Right and the Teacher Evaluation plan is now on TalentEd. https://eup.cloud.talentedk12.com/perform/login.aspx
We plan to meet each Summer to review and update both systems so that we have an even better system for next year.
